Florida Department of Transportation
- Transportation Data Analytics Office
The Transportation Statistics Office was preparing for new responsibilities related to managing a more comprehensive and varied body of transportation data, including freight data and data associated with other transportation modes, such as maritime and air. TranStat needed a detailed picture of the types of data available—along with acquisition, storage, and maintenance strategies. CIMES researched data monitoring needs, identified data sources and providers, and conducted an audit of data and quality assurance practices. A strategy was developed for data acquisition, storage, maintenance, and quality assurance, role-based data access, delivery, and reporting specifications.

Florida Department of Transportation
- Transportation Data Analytics Office
The FDOT central office needed to create a more standardized process for traffic forecasting by implementing a common training course across all Florida districts. CIMES carried out a four-month research project using techniques that included a job task analysis, focus groups, office observations, and in-depth interviews. This process culminated in the generation of a preliminary competency model that was validated by a team of traffic analyst experts. Twelve cases at varying degrees of difficulty and in various project types were identified to be part of a scenario-based training approach. Tasks, knowledge, procedures, skills, tools, and other critical elements were identified for each case.

State University System of Florida Board of Governors
The private and public sectors in Florida needed a centralized portal of research faculty in Florida’s universities to assist in identifying expertise to solve problems and create collaborative opportunities. Florida ExpertNet, a portal of applied research expertise all across Florida's research universities, was the solution. The web-based system employs a knowledge management system and content management system, along with a research taxonomy to manage content. Web crawlers and import tools collect data from the university partners across the state.

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
- Division of Food Safety
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services conducts recall audit checks in collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure that food and product recalls have been appropriately carried out. The results of these checks are reported on FDA Form 3177. However, because inspectors are seldom required to conduct recall audit checks or use this form, up-front training related to this task is not reinforced by experience and thus may not be retained by the inspectors. CIMES developed award winning just-in-time web-based training. The scenario-based training uses an approach that helps learners grasp concepts quickly and effectively. The module is being used nationally.

Voices for Florida
The Open Doors Outreach Network was launched by Voices for Florida in 2016 as part of a coordinated effort to address service gaps for victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking. Through a network of partner organizations, ODON provides a coordinated system of care that is supported by trauma-competent best practices and translational research. The Open Doors model uses teams that consist of a survivor-mentor, a regional advocate, and a clinician. CIMES developed training to support the development of knowledge and skills that ensure fidelity to ODON’s service model, leading to standardized quality care regardless of location.

California Department of Public Health
- California Tobacco Control Program
The California Department of Public Health, California Tobacco Control Program, leads statewide and local health programs, services, and activities that promote a tobacco-free environment. CIMES developed the Tobacco Control Funding Opportunities and Resources site to consolidate access in a single location to the information, tools, and resources applicants need to identify funding opportunities and prepare applications for the California Tobacco Control Program. The site also contains searchable directories of active projects and project evaluators, along with links to important websites.

Florida Department of Transportation
- Transportation Data Analytics Office
The Florida Department of Transportation collects data for a national-level information system known as the Highway Performance Monitoring System. CIMES worked closely with the HPMS expert to identify the knowledge, processes, procedures, skills, and aptitudes technicians need to perform the data collection tasks. CIMES then developed web-based training that includes scenarios with multiple solutions and assessments that provide rich feedback to help model behavior, deepen understanding, and promote transfer of learning.
